Networks & Wi-Fi
Wired Networks
For business networks we normally recommend DrayTek business-class ADSL/VDSL routers. These have a number of features not available in standard consumer routers (such as BT Hub) including multiple WAN ports which allow the use of 2 or more fibre/ADSL broadband connections for either load-balancing or failover and VLANS for separating private and guest network traffic.
Wi-Fi Networks
Wi-Fi is fast becoming an essential utility, almost like water and electricity. If you run a hotel or guest house you will know that your customers demand reliable, high-speed Wi-Fi that works 24/7. Poor Wi-Fi can lead to complaints that will have a detrimental effect on your business.
We have been installing Wi-Fi in commercial premises and outdoor public areas for a number of years. We know exactly what works and what doesn't in any given location. Many smaller businesses (e.g. B&Bs, guest houses) share their single broadband internet connection with their guests. This has serious security implications as you are basically all conected to the same network and may be able to 'see' each other. We can supply and install routers that can be configured with VLANs (virtual local area networks) that isolates your devices from your guests' whilst still allowing you to share the same internet connection. |
For larger organisations we can carry out a site survey to determine how many wireless access points are required to provide good wireless coverage and install a managed wireless solution which, amongst other things, enables us to control how much bandwidth (speed) each user is allocated meaning everyone gets an equal share so that one 'bad' user can't ruin the service for everyone else.
We use enterprise-class Wi-Fi equipment from manufacturers including Ubiquiti Networks, DrayTek, and Cisco in our Wi-Fi installations. Equipment intended for domestic use such as the 'free' routers supplied by your ISP, Wi-Fi repeaters and Powerline adapters are simply not up to the job in a commercial environment.
